Looking for auto transport in Phoenix? What car shipping in Phoenix costs depends on the route, the vehicle and whether it runs. We ran real quotes from our platform for thirty-six Phoenix lanes, both leaving and arriving, from a 113-mile hop between Phoenix and Tucson to a 2,409-mile haul between New York and Phoenix, and an open-trailer sedan ranged from $205 to $1,392. Here is what Phoenix car transport costs by vehicle type and route, including car shipping from Phoenix to Los Angeles, Dallas, Chicago and New York, how the price changes by direction, how snowbird season, the January collector-car auctions and the summer heat change the picture, and the registration, emissions and insurance rules if you are moving here. Every price is door to door, and you can read how that works in our door-to-door auto transport guide.

What it costs to ship a car to or from Phoenix

Whether you need an auto transport service in Phoenix for a move, a purchase or a dealer transfer, every figure below is a real quote from our platform for one vehicle on an open trailer, running, priced separately for each vehicle type. All lanes were priced on November 6, 2026, and prices move from week to week, so treat them as a snapshot. The same prices apply to Scottsdale, Tempe, Mesa, Chandler, Gilbert, Glendale and the rest of the Valley, and each lane is labeled by its actual cities. Most moves are quoted in both directions, so you can see what changes when the car is arriving in Phoenix or leaving it. Phoenix is one of the five largest cities in the country, so a lot of car carriers pass through, but the price still depends on how many are heading the same way.

Distances are the road miles in each quote, and prices are in dollars. The price per mile falls fast as the trip gets longer, from $2.07 a mile on Flagstaff → Phoenix (145 mi) to $0.52 on Houston → Phoenix (1,177 mi). Pickups cost a median of 63% more than a sedan on these lanes and vans a median of 60% more, while an SUV was priced below the sedan on 5 of 36 lanes. Treat these as a guide, and get a live quote for your exact pickup and delivery points.

How the price per mile changes with distance

Distance is the biggest driver, but the price per mile falls as the trip gets longer. For a sedan it ran $0.74–$2.07 per mile under 450 miles and $0.52–$0.90 per mile at 1,000 miles or more. A short run costs more per mile because the driver still has to load, unload and reposition the truck whether the trip is 113 miles or 1,000. Phoenix to Tucson is 113 miles and cost $232, or $2.05 a mile, while New York to Phoenix is about 21 times as far but only 6 times the price.

Pickups and vans cost more than sedans

A pickup cost a median of 63% more than a sedan on the same lane, ranging from about the same price to 188% more, and a van a median of 60% more. An SUV was priced within a median of 10% of the sedan and was cheaper on 5 of 36. If you are shipping a pickup, check the pickup column for your route, and dually trucks, lifted vehicles and anything oversized need a quote of their own. Our pickup truck shipping guide has the details.

Popular Phoenix car shipping routes

Phoenix to Tucson, Flagstaff and Albuquerque

The short hauls are Tucson on I-10, Flagstaff on I-17 and Albuquerque to the east, and they are the shortest lanes in and out of the Valley. Tucson: a sedan was $232 leaving Phoenix (113 mi) and $205 into Phoenix; Flagstaff: a sedan was $279 leaving Phoenix (145 mi) and $300 into Phoenix; Albuquerque: a sedan was $455 leaving Phoenix (417 mi) and $483 into Phoenix.

Phoenix to Las Vegas, Los Angeles, San Diego and San Francisco

West to Southern California on I-10 and I-8, northwest to Las Vegas, or on to the Bay Area, these are the lanes most people think of first when they move to or from Arizona. Las Vegas: a sedan was $324 leaving Phoenix (340 mi) and $350 into Phoenix; Los Angeles: a sedan was $275 leaving Phoenix (374 mi) and $465 into Phoenix; San Diego: a sedan was $411 leaving Phoenix (355 mi) and $450 into Phoenix; San Francisco: a sedan was $541 leaving Phoenix (754 mi) and $649 into Phoenix.

Phoenix to Salt Lake City, Denver and Seattle

North through the Mountain West and up to the Pacific Northwest, the mid-length and long runs. Salt Lake City: a sedan was $657 leaving Phoenix (664 mi) and $519 into Phoenix; Denver: a sedan was $955 leaving Phoenix (822 mi) and $667 into Phoenix; Seattle: a sedan was $1,071 leaving Phoenix (1,456 mi) and $944 into Phoenix.

Phoenix to Dallas, Houston and Kansas City

East across Texas on I-10 and I-20, or northeast to Kansas City, the central lanes. Dallas: a sedan was $839 leaving Phoenix (1,065 mi) and $600 into Phoenix; Houston: a sedan was $669 leaving Phoenix (1,177 mi) and $609 into Phoenix; Kansas City: a sedan was $1,092 leaving Phoenix (1,208 mi) and $972 into Phoenix.

Phoenix to Chicago and Minneapolis

The Midwest lanes, which also carry a lot of winter-resident traffic in the fall and spring. Chicago: a sedan was $1,039 leaving Phoenix (1,716 mi) and $1,020 into Phoenix; Minneapolis: a sedan was $1,265 leaving Phoenix (1,643 mi) and $1,198 into Phoenix.

Phoenix to Atlanta, Orlando and New York

The long Southeast and Northeast runs are the most expensive in dollars and among the cheapest per mile. Atlanta: a sedan was $1,073 leaving Phoenix (1,814 mi) and $1,096 into Phoenix; Orlando: a sedan was $1,229 leaving Phoenix (2,140 mi) and $1,201 into Phoenix; New York: a sedan was $1,361 leaving Phoenix (2,408 mi) and $1,392 into Phoenix.

Each lane shows what we were quoted in November 2026 for a sedan on an open trailer. Prices are the same for Scottsdale, Tempe, Mesa, Chandler, Gilbert, Glendale, Peoria and the rest of the Valley, because carriers treat Phoenix as one pickup area. If you are further out, in Apache Junction, Maricopa, Queen Creek or Casa Grande, expect a little more for the extra distance. For the whole state, see our Arizona auto transport guide.

A sedan leaving Phoenix cost more than the same trip arriving on 8 of the 18 corridors: Phoenix to Denver 43% higher ($955 vs. $667), Phoenix to Dallas 40% higher ($839 vs. $600), Phoenix to Salt Lake City 27% higher ($657 vs. $519), Phoenix to Seattle 13% higher ($1,071 vs. $944). Arriving in Phoenix cost more on 6: Los Angeles to Phoenix 69% higher ($465 vs. $275), San Francisco to Phoenix 20% higher ($649 vs. $541), San Diego to Phoenix 9% higher ($450 vs. $411). About the same both ways: Phoenix and Chicago, Phoenix and Atlanta, Phoenix and Orlando, Phoenix and New York. The price follows how many cars are moving each way on that lane, so if you can ship in either direction, or can drive one way and ship the other, check both. Winter residents are a big part of the Phoenix picture, with cars moving toward Arizona in the fall and back north in the spring, and the table above is a snapshot taken in November, so a quote in April can look different. We measured direction across our whole dataset in our study of 287 lanes priced both ways.

Ten jobs, five arriving in Phoenix and five leaving, and they show how the metro moves: long runs of 788 to 2,661 miles to and from the East Coast, Florida, the Midwest and the Pacific Northwest, and enclosed trailers carried 5 of the 10, including classics and high-value cars. 5 of the 10 were delivered within three days, and the longest, a 2018 Volvo S90 from Plaistow, NH to Phoenix, AZ (about 2,661 miles), took 7 days. The Audi R8 is in the table only, because its order has no photos on file.

Inoperable and enclosed vehicles: what they add

On our platform an inoperable vehicle adds about 25% to the open-trailer price (a median of about $190 for a sedan in our tests), because the driver needs a winch and extra loading time, and enclosed transport adds about 75%, because enclosed trailers carry fewer cars. For example, a sedan quoted at $275 open from Phoenix to Los Angeles works out to about $481 enclosed, or about $602 if it also does not run. Collector cars, classics and high-value vehicles are usually shipped enclosed, and five of the jobs above were, including a 1969 Volkswagen Beetle and a 1968 Corvette. See our inoperable vehicle guide and our classic car transport guide for details.

Snowbird season, collector-car week, summer heat and when to ship

A few patterns recur in Phoenix car shipping. These are general industry experience and the Valley’s own calendar, not our quote data, so compare a live quote for your date:

  • Snowbird season. Many winter residents from the Midwest and Canada spend the cooler months in the Valley. Cars tend to move toward Arizona in the fall and back north in the spring, which is why the direction you ship can matter for price and for how soon a truck is available, and why we priced Chicago and Minneapolis both ways.
  • Collector-car auctions in Scottsdale. The Barrett-Jackson auction is scheduled for January 23 to 31, 2027 at WestWorld of Scottsdale, according to published event listings, and other collector auctions run around it. Cars arriving or leaving that week are usually shipped enclosed, so book early if you have a car in that window.
  • Summer heat. Triple-digit temperatures from late spring through September are hard on batteries and tires. Owners of newer, electric or collector cars often choose enclosed transport and early-morning or evening delivery.
  • Monsoon season. Arizona’s official monsoon season runs from June 15 to September 30, according to the National Weather Service. Sudden thunderstorms and dust storms can close sections of I-10 and I-17 for hours, and carriers may hold cars until the roads reopen.
  • Relocations. Phoenix draws a steady stream of moves from California and the Midwest, which is why the Los Angeles, San Diego, Chicago and Minneapolis lanes are on our list, and many movers ship a second car instead of driving two.
  • Students and the military. Move-in in August and January and move-out in May matter around Arizona State University in Tempe, and permanent change of station moves to Luke Air Force Base in Glendale follow the military’s own summer peak.
  • Dealers and auctions. The Valley has large auction yards and dealer groups, which is why dealer and auction transfers are a regular part of the work here.

A flexible pickup window of a few days usually gets a faster carrier match, and booking a few weeks ahead matters more in January, around the auctions, and over the holidays.

Pickup and delivery around the Phoenix metro

  • Downtown, Midtown, Arcadia and the Biltmore area. One-way streets, event traffic and tight garages make a full-size truck hard to park, so drivers often meet customers at a nearby lot.
  • Scottsdale and Paradise Valley. Many gated and HOA streets, so ask about gate access and delivery hours, and plan a meeting point on a wider road if a 75-foot truck cannot get in.
  • Tempe, Mesa and the East Valley. Mostly wide suburban streets near the US-60 and Loop 202, easy for car carriers, with a busy student market around Arizona State University.
  • Chandler, Gilbert and Queen Creek. Newer planned neighborhoods in the southeast Valley, many with HOAs and narrow cul-de-sacs.
  • Glendale, Peoria, Surprise and the West Valley. Larger suburbs along the Loop 101 and Loop 303, and Luke Air Force Base, where gate access needs planning.
  • Ahwatukee, Anthem and the north Valley. Edge communities on the south and north sides of the metro, some with steeper or narrower streets.
  • Tolleson, Chandler and the auction yards. Industrial areas where several auction and dealer pickups happen.
  • Apache Junction, Maricopa, Casa Grande and Cave Creek. Outlying cities priced a little higher for the extra distance.

A full-size car hauler is about 75 feet long. If your street is narrow, has low trees, a gate or a cul-de-sac, the driver will usually ask to meet you at a nearby lot, and that is normal in the Valley.

Distance, transit time and the main corridors

Phoenix traffic runs on a few roads:

  • I-10 runs west to Los Angeles, southeast to Tucson and on to El Paso and Texas, and carries most of the long-haul car carriers, and I-17 runs north to Flagstaff, where it meets I-40.
  • I-8 is the usual route toward San Diego, and US-60 and US-93 lead northwest toward Wickenburg and Las Vegas.
  • The Loop 101, Loop 202, Loop 303 and the Piestewa Freeway (SR-51) connect the suburbs, and rush hour and dust or storm closures can slow a driver trying to cross the Valley.

Typical open-trailer transit is about 1 to 2 days for trips under 450 miles, 2 to 4 days for 500 to 900 miles, 3 to 6 days for 1,000 to 1,500 miles and 6 to 9 days coast to coast. Those are industry-typical ranges rather than guarantees, and the clock starts when a driver picks the car up, not when you book.

Moving to Phoenix: registration, emissions and insurance

These are the rules the Arizona Department of Transportation’s Motor Vehicle Division (MVD) and the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality publish, as we read them on their pages, so confirm each item with the state before you go. The full list is on our Arizona page:

  • Register as soon as you become a resident. MVD says a vehicle brought from another state should be titled and registered in Arizona as soon as you become a resident. You apply in person with the out-of-state title (or the registration if a lender holds the title) and a valid driver license.
  • VIN inspection in some cases. A VIN inspection is not required for every car, but MVD uses it when the paperwork or the vehicle identity is in question. The basic Level I inspection is described as free at an MVD office.
  • Emissions test in the Phoenix area. Arizona requires emissions testing in the metropolitan Phoenix and Tucson areas, and the compliance form is part of your registration there. Some vehicles, such as new models and electric vehicles, are exempt, so ask ADEQ or MVD whether your car needs one.
  • Insurance. MVD lists the minimum liability limits as $25,000 for injury to one person, $50,000 for two or more people and $15,000 for property damage, from an insurer authorized to do business in Arizona.

Our moving-to-Phoenix tip: ship the car to arrive when you can book the MVD visit and an Arizona insurance policy, so the car is not waiting on paperwork, and plan the emissions test in the same week if you live in the metro area.

Dealerships and auctions in the Phoenix area

Dealers and auction yards are some of the most common pickup and delivery points for car carriers around Phoenix, and they are commercial addresses where a full-size trailer can usually reach. There is no single official ranking of Phoenix dealerships, so these are examples rather than a top-ten list. For the full picture of auction pickups, see our auction and dealer car shipping guide.

Auction yards

  • Manheim Phoenix — a dealer auction in Tolleson, listed on Manheim’s location page.
  • ADESA Phoenix — a dealer auction in Chandler, listed on the ADESA site.
  • Copart and IAA — both operate Phoenix yards that sell salvage and damaged vehicles, which often do not run, so price those as inoperable.
  • Barrett-Jackson — the collector-car auction at WestWorld in Scottsdale each January draws cars from across the country, and those cars usually ship enclosed.
  • Verify first — yard names and addresses change, so confirm each on the company’s own location page before the driver arrives.

Each yard has its own release and gate-pass rules, so confirm them before the driver arrives. If you are moving several vehicles, we also have dealer and volume pricing in our auction and dealer guide.

How to choose a car shipping company in Phoenix

Searches for auto transport companies in Phoenix find long lists of names, but there is no official ranking, and the right company is the one that is licensed, insured and clear about price. Check these before you book with anyone:

  • Look up the company’s federal registration. Every interstate auto transporter or broker needs a USDOT number and operating authority. You can check them on the FMCSA company snapshot and the FMCSA licensing and insurance search.
  • Know whether you are dealing with a broker or a carrier. A carrier owns the trucks. A marketplace like Transportli sends your request to vetted carriers on your lane and shows you the quotes side by side.
  • Ask what the quote includes. Our quotes are for one vehicle on an open trailer, and inoperable and enclosed are priced as adjustments, as shown above. Be wary of a price far below the others, because it may not find a driver.
  • Understand the pickup window. Carriers give a window, not an exact time, and a flexible window of a few days usually gets a faster match.
  • Document the car. The bill of lading is the condition report, so take dated photos at pickup and delivery and note any damage before you sign.

Preparing your car for pickup

  1. Wash the car and photograph it from every side, inside and out, with the date on.
  2. Leave about a quarter tank of fuel and check for leaks, since carriers may refuse a car that leaks fluid.
  3. Remove personal items and toll tags. Carriers generally do not insure belongings left in the car, and any toll transponder should come off before pickup so it does not bill you on the truck.
  4. In summer, check the battery and tire pressure, since extreme heat is hard on both, and ask for an early-morning or evening handoff if you can. During monsoon season, tell the carrier if storms may delay the pickup.
  5. Fold or secure mirrors, antennas and racks and tell the carrier about anything unusual: a lowered car, a lift kit, a roof rack or a car that does not run.
  6. Plan the handoff. A large truck cannot always reach a narrow street or a gated community, so be ready to meet the driver at a nearby lot, and make sure someone can inspect and sign the bill of lading at both ends.

Does the direction of the trip change the price?

In our quotes a sedan leaving Phoenix cost more than the same trip arriving on 8 of the 18 corridors, for example Phoenix to Denver 43% higher ($955 vs. $667). If you can ship in either direction, compare both.

What is snowbird season and does it affect car shipping in Phoenix?

Many winter residents from the Midwest and Canada spend the cooler months in the Valley, so cars tend to move toward Arizona in the fall and back north in the spring. That can change both the price and how soon a truck is available on a lane, so compare quotes for your dates and ask about both directions.

How much extra does it cost to ship an inoperable car?

On our platform an inoperable vehicle adds about 25% to the open-trailer price (a median of about $190 for a sedan in our tests), because the driver needs a winch and extra loading time. Tell us the car does not run when you request the quote.

How much more is enclosed car shipping?

Enclosed transport adds about 75% over the open-trailer price on our platform. For example, a sedan quoted at $275 open from Phoenix to Los Angeles works out to about $481 enclosed. Collector and high-value cars are usually shipped enclosed.

Can I ship a car to or from the Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale?

Yes. Carriers pick up and deliver collector cars around the January auction at WestWorld of Scottsdale, which is scheduled for January 23 to 31, 2027 according to published event listings. Those cars are usually shipped enclosed, and the week is busy, so book early and confirm the venue’s own release and delivery rules.

Does summer heat or monsoon season affect car shipping from Phoenix?

It can. Arizona’s official monsoon season runs from June 15 to September 30, according to the National Weather Service, and sudden thunderstorms and dust storms can close sections of I-10 and I-17 for hours. Extreme heat is also hard on batteries and tires, so many owners ask for early-morning or evening handoffs or choose enclosed transport.

Can a truck deliver to my house or gated community in the Phoenix area?

Usually, if the street and the gate allow a 75-foot car hauler. Narrow streets, low trees, cul-de-sacs and some gated communities do not, so the driver may ask you to meet at a nearby lot. Ask your HOA about gate access and delivery hours.

How soon do I have to register my car in Phoenix after moving?

Arizona MVD says to title and register an out-of-state vehicle as soon as you become a resident. You apply at an MVD office with the title and a valid license, and a VIN inspection is needed when the paperwork or the vehicle identity is in question. Confirm the details with MVD.

Does my car need an emissions test in Phoenix?

Arizona requires emissions testing in the metropolitan Phoenix and Tucson areas, run by the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality, and the compliance form is part of registration there. Some vehicles, such as new models and electric vehicles, are exempt, so confirm with ADEQ or MVD whether your car needs one.

What insurance does Arizona require?

Arizona MVD lists a minimum of $25,000 for injury to one person, $50,000 for two or more people and $15,000 for property damage, from an insurer authorized to do business in Arizona. Confirm the current limits with MVD or your insurer.

Can I ship a car to or from a Phoenix auction?

Yes. Carriers pick up and deliver at auction yards such as Manheim Phoenix in Tolleson, ADESA Phoenix in Chandler and the Copart and IAA yards in the Phoenix area, though each yard has its own release and gate-pass rules and addresses change. Cars that do not run, including salvage cars, should be priced as inoperable. See our auction and dealer car shipping guide.

Can I ship a classic car from Phoenix?

Yes. Several of the jobs above, including a 1968 Corvette and a 1969 Volkswagen Beetle, were classics shipped enclosed. Enclosed adds about 75% on our platform, and a vehicle that does not run adds about 25%, so say so when you request the quote. Our classic car guide covers the details.

How long do recent Phoenix car shipments take?

On our recent jobs a 2018 Volvo S90 from Plaistow, NH to Phoenix, AZ (about 2,661 miles) took 7 days, a 2010 Audi R8 from Kirkland, WA to Phoenix, AZ (about 1,409 miles) took 5 days and a 1950 Chrysler New Yorker from Phoenix, AZ to Granite Bay, CA (about 788 miles) took 3 days. Dates are the pickup and delivery dates on the orders and miles are the route distance on the order. They are examples, not promises.
