What is Sprinter van delivery service?

A Sprinter van is a full-size cargo van, named after the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter. In freight, the name covers the whole class of high-roof cargo vans, so the van that picks up your load may be a Sprinter, a Ford Transit, a Ram ProMaster or a similar model. What they have in common is an enclosed cargo area you can stand up in, a flat floor and rear and side doors, which keeps pallets, boxes and parts dry and out of sight.

Compared with the alternatives:

  • Versus a courier car or small van: a Sprinter carries pallets and heavier freight, not just parcels.
  • Versus a box truck: a Sprinter is usually quicker to dispatch and costs less, but holds less.
  • Versus LTL freight: the van is yours alone and drives direct. There are no terminals and no waiting for a consolidated truck, so it is faster and handled less, and it costs more.

What can a Sprinter van carry?

Sprinter vans come in a few lengths and two roof heights. These are the approximate cargo areas for the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter cargo van:

VanCargo lengthCargo volumeStandard pallets (48″ × 40″)
144″ wheelbase, standard roofabout 133″about 319 cu ft3
144″ wheelbase, high roofabout 133″about 374 cu ft3
170″ wheelbase, high roofabout 173″about 488 cu ft4
170″ extended, high roofabout 189″about 533 cu ft4
Top view of two Sprinter cargo vans: a 144-inch wheelbase van holding 3 standard 48 by 40 inch pallets in about 133 inches of cargo length, and a 170-inch van holding 4 pallets in about 173 inches, with 53 inches between the wheel wells, 68 to 79 inch interior height and about 3,000 lb typical payload

Width and height. The floor is about 53″ wide between the wheel wells and about 70″ at the widest point. Interior height is about 68″ in a standard roof and about 79″ in a high roof. Pallets sit in a single row, so the pallet counts above assume 48″ × 40″ pallets loaded end to end. Check the door opening for tall loads.

Weight. Plan on about 3,000 lb. Maximum payload varies by model, wheelbase, roof height and drive type. On the common 2500-series vans it is roughly 3,700 to 4,200 lb, and heavier-duty models carry more. Because weight usually runs out before floor space does, three heavy pallets can be a full van.

These are approximate figures from the manufacturer’s 2026 specifications. Ford Transit and Ram ProMaster vans are in a similar size class but not identical. Tell dispatch the real size and weight of your load and they will match the right van.

Sprinter van delivery cost by distance

These are Transportli’s typical prices for Sprinter van delivery, before fuel surcharge. Cargo vans are priced the same way. Prices are set by distance band, so a trip at the top of a band costs less per mile than one at the bottom, and the price steps up when the distance crosses into the next band. Your actual quote depends on real-time capacity and your exact route.

DistanceTypical priceApprox. per mile
0–50 miles$183Minimum
51–100 miles$275$3.64
101–150 miles$360$2.87
151–200 miles$427$2.43

1,501–2,000 miles$1,946$1.11
2,001–2,500 miles$2,257$1.00

Per-mile figures are calculated at the middle of each band. California pickups have a $427 minimum. Trips over 2,500 miles are quoted individually. A fuel surcharge is added to every quote, and accessorials such as wait time are charged separately.

What changes the price

  • Distance. It is the biggest factor, and price per mile falls as the trip gets longer.
  • Timing. Weekend, after-hours and same-day pickups can cost more.
  • Capacity near your pickup. If few vans are nearby, the price goes up.
  • Extra services. Multi-stop runs, wait time and other accessorials are quoted separately.
  • The load. A heavier or bulkier load may need a longer or higher-payload van.

How Sprinter van delivery works

  1. Request a quote with your pickup and delivery locations, the size and weight of your load, and your deadline.
  2. A vetted driver is dispatched to your pickup location, usually within 1–2 hours, 24/7.
  3. The driver loads and secures your freight and takes photos at pickup.
  4. The van drives direct. There are no terminals or transfers, you can track it live, and team drivers can run long distances without stopping.
  5. Your freight is delivered and photographed at delivery.

Palletized and not urgentLTL freight, which usually costs less
A single pallet or a few boxes, under 1,500 lbA cargo van
