A Bill of Lading is the legal contract between shipper, carrier, and consignee — and the document the driver needs at pickup. Fill in your shipment details below and download a print-ready BOL as a PDF. Nothing you enter is sent to our servers; the PDF is built right in your browser.
What is a Bill of Lading?
A Bill of Lading (BOL) is a legal document issued by or on behalf of the carrier that lists the shipper, consignee, freight description, weight, and freight class for a shipment. It serves three purposes at once: a receipt for the freight, evidence of the contract of carriage, and — in some forms — a document of title. The driver won’t load your freight without one.
What you need before you fill this out
Have your pickup and delivery addresses, a description of what’s shipping, the piece count and pallet count, total weight, and — if you know it — the NMFC freight class. Not sure about class? Use the freight class calculator first; getting it right here avoids a reclass charge at the carrier’s dock.
Frequently asked questions
Who fills out a Bill of Lading?
Usually the shipper prepares it before pickup, though carriers and brokers sometimes generate it on the shipper’s behalf. Whoever fills it out is certifying that the freight is properly described, classified, and packaged.
Does the BOL need to be signed?
Yes — the shipper signs at pickup, and the driver and consignee sign at pickup and delivery respectively, confirming the freight count and condition. This generator produces a print-ready PDF with blank signature lines for that purpose.
What happens if the freight class on the BOL is wrong?
The carrier can reweigh and reclass the shipment at their terminal, which usually means a rebill at the corrected rate. Get the class right upfront with the freight class calculator to avoid this.
Can I use this BOL for any carrier?
Yes — a straight bill of lading in this short form is a generic, carrier-agnostic document accepted industry-wide. You don’t need to use a carrier’s own template.
Is my shipment data stored anywhere?
No. The PDF is generated entirely in your browser using client-side code — nothing you type into this form is transmitted to or stored on our servers.
