Looking for auto transport in Utah? What car shipping in Utah costs depends on the route, the vehicle and whether it runs. We ran real quotes from our platform for thirty-six Utah lanes around Salt Lake City, Provo, Ogden and St. George, from a 120-mile hop between Las Vegas and St. George to a 2,546-mile haul between Miami and Salt Lake City, and an open-trailer sedan ranged from $274 to $1,442. Here is what Utah auto transport costs by vehicle type and route, including car shipping from Utah to Florida, California, Nevada, Arizona and Colorado, how the price changes by direction, how dealer transfers to Colorado work, and the registration, emissions and insurance rules if you are moving here. Every price is door to door, and you can read how that works in our door-to-door auto transport guide.
What it costs to ship a car to or from Utah
Whether you need an auto transport service in Utah for a move, a purchase or a dealer transfer, every figure below is a real quote from our platform for one vehicle on an open trailer, running, priced separately for each vehicle type. All lanes were priced on October 31, 2026. Salt Lake City stands in for the Wasatch Front and the I-15 and I-80 corridors, Provo for Utah County and the tech corridor, Ogden for the north around Hill Air Force Base, and St. George for the southwest and the Nevada and Arizona lines, and each lane is labeled by its actual cities. Most moves are quoted in both directions, so you can see what changes when the car is arriving in Utah or leaving it. Park City, Logan, Moab and the small towns are served from the same lanes, with a meeting point when needed.

Distances are the road miles in each quote, and prices are in dollars. The price per mile falls fast as the trip gets longer, from $2.50 a mile on Las Vegas → St. George to $0.49 on Salt Lake City → Miami. Pickups cost a median of 43% more than a sedan on these lanes and vans a median of 45% more, while an SUV was priced below the sedan on 6 of 36 lanes. Treat these as a guide, and get a live quote for your exact pickup and delivery points. Some vehicle-type quotes looked uneven, such as a pickup from Provo to Los Angeles at $1,088 against a $440 sedan and a van from Salt Lake City to Las Vegas at $663 against a $361 sedan, so check the vehicle columns for your own route.

Every dot is a real quote from the lane table above. Pick your vehicle and options to re-price every lane, see how the price per mile changes with distance, and find the real lanes closest to your trip.
How the price per mile changes with distance
Distance is the biggest driver, but the price per mile falls as the trip gets longer. For a sedan it ran $0.80–$2.50 per mile under 450 miles and $0.49–$0.75 per mile at 1,000 miles or more. A short run costs more per mile because the driver still has to load, unload and reposition the truck whether the trip is 120 miles or 1,000. Las Vegas to St. George is 120 miles and cost $300, or $2.50 a mile, while Miami to Salt Lake City is about 21 times as far but only 5 times the price.
Pickups and vans cost more than sedans
A pickup cost a median of 43% more than a sedan on the same lane, from 1% to 147% more, and a van a median of 45% more. An SUV was priced within a median of 7% of the sedan and was cheaper on 6 of 36. Utah ships plenty of pickups, trucks, SUVs and powersports vehicles, and one of our recent jobs was a heavy-duty Silverado 3500, so if you are shipping one, check the pickup and van columns for your route, and dually trucks, lifted vehicles and box trucks need a quote of their own. Our pickup truck shipping guide and our study of how much more a pickup, SUV or van costs than a sedan have the details.
Popular Utah car shipping routes

Inside Utah and across the border
Utah is about 350 miles from the Idaho line to the Arizona line, and Salt Lake City to St. George is about 300 miles on I-15, so trips inside the state are served from the same lanes: Logan, Park City, Moab, Vernal, Cedar City, Tooele and the small towns from Salt Lake City, Provo, Ogden and St. George. Our Idaho, Nevada, Arizona and Colorado guides cover neighboring lanes.

A sedan arriving in Salt Lake City, Provo, Ogden or St. George cost more than the same trip leaving on 14 of the 18 corridors: Los Angeles to Salt Lake City 118% higher ($874 vs. $400), Los Angeles to St. George 97% higher ($612 vs. $311), Los Angeles to Provo 76% higher ($775 vs. $440), Boise to Ogden 28% higher ($383 vs. $300). Leaving the hub cost more on 2: Salt Lake City to Dallas 16% higher ($944 vs. $813), Provo to Denver 12% higher ($468 vs. $416). About the same both ways: Ogden and Denver, St. George and Phoenix. The price follows how many cars are moving each way on that lane, so if you can ship in either direction, or can drive one way and ship the other, check both. We measured this across our whole dataset in our study of 287 lanes priced both ways.

Recent jobs to and from Utah
These are ten jobs that started in Utah between June 2025 and October 2026, taken from the signed bills of lading and the pickup and delivery photos the driver filed. Customer names, street addresses, VINs and plates are left out, and the photos are blurred where needed. Dates are the signature dates on the bills of lading and miles are our approximation. Ten jobs is a small sample, so treat these as examples, not promises.

| 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD | Salt Lake City, UT (ADESA auction) → Lincoln, NE | 960 | Oct 12, 2026 | Oct 13, 2026 | 1 day |
Nine of the ten jobs were done in one or two days by the signature dates, and the slowest, the Volkswagen Beetle chassis from West Jordan to northern New Jersey, took five days over about 2,370 miles. Seven of the ten were dealership pickups, and six of those were short hauls over the Rockies: four Mazda transfers from Salt Lake valley dealerships, Sandy and Bountiful, to a Mazda dealership in Loveland, Colorado, plus a Ford Explorer to Pueblo and a Chevrolet Bolt from Tooele to Englewood, each delivered the next day or the day after. That is a typical Utah dealer lane, from the Wasatch Front to the Colorado Front Range, about 430 miles. The Silverado came from an ADESA auction in Salt Lake City, the Beetle was a project car, and the Honda Shadow is a motorcycle, so describe the vehicle when you request a quote, because powersports and cars that do not run are priced separately. Our auction and dealer car shipping guide and classic car transport guide have the details.
Inoperable and enclosed vehicles: what they add
On our platform an inoperable vehicle adds about 25% to the open-trailer price (a median of about $190 for a sedan in our tests), because the driver needs a winch and extra loading time, and enclosed transport adds about 75%, because enclosed trailers carry fewer cars. For example, a sedan quoted at $451 open from Salt Lake City to Denver works out to about $789 enclosed, or about $987 if it also does not run. Collector cars, exotics and high-value vehicles are usually shipped enclosed, which many owners choose for winter road salt, gravel and hail. See our inoperable vehicle guide, our classic car transport guide and our exotic and luxury car shipping guide for details.
Florida, dealers, ski season, military and when to ship
A few patterns recur in Utah car shipping. These are general industry experience and the state’s own calendar, not our quote data, so compare a live quote for your date:
- Utah to Florida. “Utah to Florida” is the biggest search in our keyword data, driven by retirees, snowbirds and relocations, and it is a long cross-country run, so book a few weeks ahead in the fall and spring. Our Florida guide covers the other end.
- Dealer transfers. Seven of our ten recent jobs started at dealerships, and most went to Colorado dealers one to two days away. See our auction and dealer guide.
- Relocation and tech. The Wasatch Front, including Lehi, Draper and the Silicon Slopes corridor, is one of the fastest-growing job markets in the West, and relocations come from California, Texas and the Northeast.
- Students. The University of Utah, Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah State in Logan and Utah Valley University bring move-in in August and move-out in April and May.
- Military. Hill Air Force Base near Ogden, Tooele Army Depot and Dugway Proving Ground bring moves in and out all year. Ask your carrier how gate access will work, and active-duty members can ask about our military discount.
- Ski season and tourism. Park City, Alta, Snowbird and the Cottonwood canyons are busy from December to April, and the national parks around Moab and Zion bring spring and fall traffic, so a driver may ask for a meeting point on a main road rather than a mountain street.
- Powersports and trucks. Motorcycles, ATVs and UTVs are part of Utah life, as our Honda Shadow job shows, and they ship separately from cars.
- Winter storms and inversions. Snow can close I-80, I-15 and the mountain passes, and winter inversions can slow traffic along the Wasatch Front, so keep your window flexible and check UDOT Traffic before pickup.
A flexible pickup window of a few days usually gets a faster carrier match, and booking a few weeks ahead matters more in winter, at the start of the school year and around ski and holiday weekends.
Distance, transit time and the main corridors
Utah’s traffic runs on a few roads:
- I-15 runs the length of the state from Idaho through Ogden, Salt Lake City and Provo to St. George and Las Vegas, and I-80 crosses the north from Nevada through Salt Lake City to Wyoming. They are the two roads most carriers use.
- I-84 connects Ogden to Boise, I-70 crosses the center of the state toward Colorado, and US-6, US-40 and US-89 serve Price, Vernal and the south, so a pickup in a small town is often routed to I-15 first.
- Distances inside the state. Utah is about 350 miles from north to south, so a trip from Ogden to St. George is a long haul by itself, and the whole state is in the Mountain time zone.
- Weather closures. I-80 and I-15 can close in winter storms, canyon roads close for avalanche control, and a storm in Utah, Wyoming or Idaho can delay a truck that is already on the road.
Typical open-trailer transit is about 1 to 2 days for trips under 450 miles, 2 to 4 days for 500 to 900 miles, 3 to 6 days for 1,000 to 1,500 miles and 6 to 9 days coast to coast, and a storm can add a day or more. Those are industry-typical ranges rather than guarantees, and the clock starts when a driver picks the car up, not when you book.
Moving to Utah: registration, emissions testing and insurance
If you are moving to Utah, the car arrives before the paperwork starts. These are the rules we found in search excerpts and the state’s pages, so confirm each item with the Utah Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) or your county before you go:
- Registration. One source says new residents have 60 days to register a vehicle in Utah, but we did not find official confirmation, so ask the DMV. Official information is at dmv.utah.gov.
- VIN inspection. A vehicle titled in Utah for the first time needs a VIN inspection, which the DMV says a DMV employee can complete during registration, and new vehicles sold by a Utah dealer are exempt.
- Emissions testing. The sources we found list Salt Lake, Utah, Davis and Weber counties, and some add Cache County, so check your county. New vehicles are generally exempt. The annual safety inspection for passenger vehicles was dropped from 2018 registrations, though some vehicles still need one.
- Insurance. Sources conflict on the liability minimums: older guides say $25,000 per person, $65,000 per accident and $15,000 for property damage, while newer ones say they rose to $30,000, $65,000 and $25,000 in 2025. Utah is a no-fault state that also requires $3,000 in personal injury protection. Confirm with the Utah Insurance Department or your insurer, and most lenders and leases require more.
- Military. Active-duty members stationed in Utah but domiciled elsewhere can often keep their home-state registration, so ask your base legal office.
Rules and fees change, so confirm each item with the state before you go. Our moving-to-Utah tip: ship the car to arrive when you can start the registration and the emissions test, so the deadline does not run out while the car is on a truck.
Salt Lake City, Provo, Ogden, St. George and the rest of Utah
- Salt Lake City and the Wasatch Front. Salt Lake City, West Valley City, Sandy, Draper and Tooele on I-15 and I-80 have relocation, dealer, auction and corporate moves, and Salt Lake City is the closest hub to Idaho, Nevada and Colorado.
- Provo, Orem and Utah County. Provo, Orem, Lehi and Pleasant Grove on I-15 have university, tech and relocation moves, and one of our recent jobs, a Honda Shadow motorcycle, started in Pleasant Grove.
- Ogden, Layton and northern Utah. Ogden, Layton, Bountiful and Logan on I-15 and I-84 have military, dealer and relocation moves around Hill Air Force Base.
- Park City and the Wasatch Back. Park City and the ski towns have seasonal and second-home moves, with narrow streets and winter conditions that need a meeting point.
- St. George and Southern Utah. St. George, Cedar City and Washington County on I-15 have retirement, snowbird and tourism moves, and one of our recent jobs, a Miata RF, started at a St. George dealership.
- Moab, Vernal and the east. Moab, Price and the Uinta Basin on US-191, US-6 and US-40 are served from the same lanes, often with a meeting point on a main road.
Dealerships and auctions in Utah
Dealers and auction yards are some of the most common pickup and delivery points for car carriers, and they are commercial addresses where a full-size trailer can usually reach. There is no single official ranking of Utah dealerships, so these are examples drawn from company listings and our own jobs rather than a top-ten list. For the full picture of auction pickups, see our auction and dealer car shipping guide.
Auction yards
- ADESA — our Silverado 3500HD job was an ADESA pickup in Salt Lake City, according to the auction sticker in the pickup photos.
- Copart — Copart’s listings show a Salt Lake City yard, whose street address is in Magna, and an Ogden-area yard in Farr West.
- IAA — a third-party directory lists an IAA location in Ogden, which we could not confirm, so check IAA’s own site.
- Verify first — these listings come from company pages and directories, and some are old, so confirm each on the company’s own location page before the driver arrives.
- After collisions and hail — Copart, IAA and other auctions sell damaged and salvage vehicles that often do not run, so price those as inoperable.
Each yard has its own release and gate-pass rules, so confirm them before the driver arrives. Auction locations change, so check each company’s own location finder. Dealers shipping cars to out-of-state buyers, and buyers having a car delivered to their Utah home, are both common, and the same open, enclosed and inoperable pricing above applies.
How to choose a car shipping company in Utah
Searches for auto transport companies in Utah find long lists of names, but there is no official ranking, and the right company is the one that is licensed, insured and clear about price. Check these before you book with anyone:
- Look up the company’s federal registration. Every interstate auto transporter or broker needs a USDOT number and operating authority. You can check them on the FMCSA company snapshot and the FMCSA licensing and insurance search.
- Know whether you are dealing with a broker or a carrier. A carrier owns the trucks. A marketplace like Transportli matches your car with a vetted carrier on your lane and shows you the price up front.
- Ask what the quote includes. Our quotes are for one vehicle on an open trailer, and inoperable and enclosed are priced as adjustments, as shown above. Be wary of a price far below the others, because it may not find a driver.
- Understand the pickup window. Carriers give a window, not an exact time, and a flexible window of a few days usually gets a faster match.
- Document the car. The bill of lading is the condition report, so take dated photos at pickup and delivery and note any damage before you sign.
Preparing your car for pickup
- Wash the car and photograph it from every side, inside and out, with the date on.
- Leave about a quarter tank of fuel and check for leaks, since carriers may refuse a car that leaks fluid.
- Remove personal items and toll tags. Carriers generally do not insure belongings left in the car, and any toll transponder should come off before pickup so you are not charged for the truck’s tolls.
- In winter, clear the ice and snow and check the road conditions for your route and keep the car where a truck can reach it, and tell the carrier if a storm may delay the pickup.
- Fold or secure mirrors, antennas and racks and tell the carrier about anything unusual: a lowered car, a lift kit, a roof rack or a car that does not run.
- Plan the handoff. A large truck cannot always reach a gravel driveway or a narrow street, so be ready to meet the driver at a nearby lot, and make sure someone can inspect and sign the bill of lading at both ends.

How long does it take to ship a car to or from Utah?
Typical open-trailer transit is about 1 to 2 days for trips under 450 miles, 2 to 4 days for 500 to 900 miles, 3 to 6 days for 1,000 to 1,500 miles and 6 to 9 days coast to coast. Storms can add a day or more. These are typical ranges, not guarantees, and the clock starts at pickup.
Does the direction of the trip change the price?
In our quotes a sedan arriving in Salt Lake City, Provo, Ogden or St. George cost more than the same trip leaving on 14 of the 18 corridors, for example Los Angeles to Salt Lake City 118% higher ($874 vs. $400). If you can ship in either direction, compare both.
Can a Utah dealership ship cars to Colorado?
Yes. Seven of our ten recent Utah jobs started at dealerships, and several were transfers from Salt Lake valley dealerships to dealerships in Colorado, for example Sandy to Loveland, Tooele to Englewood and West Valley City to Pueblo, each delivered one to two days after pickup by the signature dates. See our auction and dealer car shipping guide.
How much extra does it cost to ship an inoperable car?
On our platform an inoperable vehicle adds about 25% to the open-trailer price (a median of about $190 for a sedan in our tests), because the driver needs a winch and extra loading time. Tell us the car does not run when you request the quote.
How much more is enclosed car shipping?
Enclosed transport adds about 75% over the open-trailer price on our platform. For example, a sedan quoted at $451 open from Salt Lake City to Denver works out to about $789 enclosed. Collector and high-value cars are usually shipped enclosed, which many owners choose for winter road salt and gravel.
Can I ship a project car or bare chassis from Utah?
Yes. One of our recent jobs was a 1958 Volkswagen Beetle shipped as a bare chassis from West Jordan, UT to northern New Jersey in five days. Tell us exactly what is on the trailer, including missing parts or a car that does not roll, because it changes how it is loaded and priced.
Can I ship a motorcycle from Utah?
Yes, but motorcycles are quoted separately from cars, so describe the bike when you request the quote. One of our recent jobs was a 2009 Honda Shadow 750 shipped from Pleasant Grove, UT to The Colony, TX in two days.
Can I ship a pickup truck from Utah?
Yes. Pickups cost a median of 43% more than a sedan on our lanes and vans a median of 45% more, and heavy-duty trucks and dually trucks need a quote of their own. One of our recent jobs was a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD from an ADESA auction in Salt Lake City to Lincoln, NE in one day. Our truck shipping guide has the details.
Can you pick up at an auction in Utah?
Yes. Carriers pick up and deliver at auction yards, and one of our recent jobs was an ADESA pickup in Salt Lake City, while Copart lists yards in the Salt Lake City and Ogden areas, though each yard has its own release and gate-pass rules and addresses change. Cars that do not run, such as salvage, should be priced as inoperable.
Does winter weather delay car shipping in Utah?
Yes. Snow can close I-80, I-15 and the mountain passes, and canyon roads close for avalanche control, so keep your window flexible, ask your carrier about storm plans and check UDOT Traffic before pickup. Ski towns such as Park City may need a meeting point on a main road.
Can I ship a car to or from Hill Air Force Base?
Yes. Carriers deliver to the Ogden and Layton area, and gate access varies, so ask the carrier how it works and consider meeting the driver outside the gate. Active-duty members can ask about our military discount.
How soon do I have to register my car in Utah after moving?
One source says new residents have 60 days, but we did not find official confirmation. Confirm with the Utah DMV before you go.
Does my car need an emissions test in Utah?
The sources we found list Salt Lake, Utah, Davis and Weber counties, and some add Cache County, with new vehicles generally exempt. Passenger vehicles no longer need an annual safety inspection, though some vehicles do. Confirm with the DMV or your county.
Do I need auto insurance in Utah?
Yes. Sources conflict on the liability limits, with older guides saying 25/65/15 and newer ones saying 30/65/25 from 2025, and Utah also requires $3,000 in personal injury protection. Confirm with the Utah Insurance Department or your insurer.
How long do recent Utah car shipments take?
On our recent jobs a 2026 Mazda CX-50 Hybrid from a Sandy, UT dealership to Loveland, CO (about 430 miles) took 1 day, a 2025 Mazda Miata RF from St. George, UT to Pendleton, OR (about 780 miles) took 1 day, a 2009 Honda Shadow 750 from Pleasant Grove, UT to The Colony, TX (about 1,150 miles) took 2 days and a 1958 Volkswagen Beetle chassis from West Jordan, UT to northern New Jersey (about 2,370 miles) took 5 days. Dates are the signature dates on the bills of lading and miles are our approximation. They are examples, not promises.
How do I choose an auto transport company in Utah?
Check the company’s USDOT number and operating authority on the FMCSA site, find out whether you are dealing with a broker or a carrier, and ask what the quote includes. Be wary of a price far below the others, because it may not find a driver, and document the car with dated photos at pickup and delivery.
